Nexeon was featured on Korean national TV station MBC News. The broadcast spotlights Nexeon's expansion in commercial silicon anode material production with a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the new facility in Gunsan. Nexeon has acquired the land adjacent to its partner, global key materials company OCI, and will use the plant to process raw material through a highly efficient fence-line infrastructure capable of producing 1500tpa of NSP2 material for silicon anodes.
The event was attended by OCI President Kim Yoo-shin (sixth from left in image), Nexeon CEO Scott Brown (third from left), Jeollabuk-do Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Jong-hoon, Gunsan Mayor Kang Im-joon, and other local officials and business partners.
The Gunsan facility will strengthen Nexeon’s position as a leader in the battery and semiconductor materials industry, and its ability to supply customers in Asia.
In his speech, Scott Brown paid tribute to the excellent relationship that has been built with OCI:
“We have enjoyed the spirit of cooperation, professionalism and the support received from everyone we have met.” He noted: “.. a fundamental shift in people’s concerns for the environment, and the drive to net zero carbon emissions. Wholesale adoption of electric vehicles is a central requirement to addressing climate change, but consumers remain concerned about vehicle range, charging times and cost. These are three areas addressed by Nexeon’s NSP2 silicon anode material.
“This site, and the Nexeon-OCI partnership, has the potential to go way beyond 1500tpa…and that is a very exciting prospect indeed; one that can have dramatic impact for both companies, for the local community and for society far beyond Gunsan.”
